Beekeeping Winter Series @ The Kerber's Farm School
Led by Kerber's Farm Beekeeper Nicole Palmer, this five-part indoor course offers a friendly, educational introduction to the world of beekeeping. Each class builds on the one before it, helping you understand honeybees, hive setup, and how everything inside a colony works together. By the end, you’ll feel knowledgeable, confident, and ready [if you choose] to bring bees home and approach your first hive inspections with ease.
Class 1 - Introduction: Getting to Know Honeybees
Learn the basics of honeybee roles, terminology, and essential equipment. This class lays the groundwork for understanding everything that follows.
Class 2 - Building an Apiary: Hive Parts & Setup
Explore the main components of a beehive and how each one functions. We’ll also cover what makes a good apiary site so you can plan a proper setup.
Class 3 - Life Inside the Hive: Behavior, Roles & Rhythm
Dive into the honeybee life cycle and how a colony works together day-to-day. This will help you understand the natural rhythms that you’ll later look for during inspections.
Class 4 - Nutrition Matters: Nectar, Pollen, & Honey
Learn how bees collect, store, and use pollen and nectar, and why nutrition is key to a strong colony. These insights help you recognize what a hive needs.
Class 5 - Reading the Hive: Pests / Diseases & Inspection Skills
We will cover common pests and diseases. How to identify and treat them. In this class, we will bring everything from previous classes together to discuss what beekeepers are looking for during a hive inspection and what healthy hive patterns look like.
